The American University Human Resources homepage is the 8th most visited page at the university and serves several different audiences, including current employees and prospective employees. I analyzed the site’s analytics and user behavior, designed new wireframes and made recommendations to the assistant vice president on improving users’ experience on the site.
Using data on users’ most common screen-sizes, I designed and implemented nested navigation sections to ensure the most popular navigational items were visible on opening the page and did not require scrolling down.
I significantly streamlined and de-cluttered the landing page, persuading HR leadership that their overuse of eye-catching modules which combined photos and calls-to-action were actually decreased the page’s effectiveness because they competed for users’ limited attention (Iyengar and Lepper, 2000).
